Ian Wright insists a new striker has to be top of Thomas Tuchel’s priorities at Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the final day, but were gifted a place in the Champions League qualification spots due to Tottenham’s 4-2 win over Leicester.
Tuchel’s side missed a host of chances at Villa Park – a problem which has plagued them this season.

And former Arsenal striker Wright says Chelsea must target a new goalscorer this summer, claiming that is all that’s standing in the way of them making a serious title challenge next season.
“They were dominant. He [Tuchel] should be very disappointed,” Wright told BBC Sport’s Match of the Day. “The chances (they had), with a massive game coming up next week.
“The goalkeeper may be out. When you look at the domination they do have, that probably starts to sink into the defenders because you’re not taking your chances, you’re not scoring them, so you’re down there trying to keep them out.
“When you look at these chances, they’re very good chances. They’re missing too many, like I say.
“I feel for them because they’re doing everything they can to get into these positions. You have to put it into perspective: when he came, they were ninth, now they’re fourth. They’ve got to find this striker, because I don’t think they’re a million miles away.
“They’ve got to have one for next season.”
Chelsea brought Timo Werner in the summer but the German has failed to replicate the goalscoring form of his RB Leipzig days, despite a decent goal contribution return.
As a result, Chelsea have been linked with a host of top strikers including Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, a return for Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku, Spurs’ Harry Kane and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.
Champions League qualification gives Chelsea a huge advantage in the summer transfer market and victory over Manchester City in the final of Europe’s showcase competition on Saturday could further strengthen their claim to lure a top striker to Stamford Bridge this summer.
