Zaha will return for Crystal Palace against Spurs, says Hodgson

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson says talisman Wilfried Zaha will return against Spurs due to his ‘powers of recovery’.

The Ivorian forward has been out since early February after suffering a hamstring injury.

In his absence, the Eagles have just picked up just one win in five matches.

Palace face Jose Mourinho’s Spurs on Sunday at 19:15.

Speaking about Zaha at a pre-match press conference, Hodgson said: “There is no reason I cannot consider him.

“He has trained well this week. He’s missed a bit but he’s still come back quicker than expected due to his powers of recovery.”

In their last three matches, Palace have picked up one win and two goalless draws.

Their most recent result was a dull 0-0 stalemate with Manchester United at home.

When asked about their form, Hodgson continued: “I am very proud of what the players have been able to achieve. It was three very tough games.

“People may question the league position of the sides but Brighton and Fulham were in top form and we didn’t have a full contingent to choose from.”

However, Palace will have to play well if they want to pick up a result in North London this weekend.

Spurs have had a recent resurgence, scoring nine goals in their last three matches.

They beat Sean Dyche’s Burnley 4-0 last time out.

Speaking about Spurs, Hodgson said: “[It’s] a big challenge. Their front four are amongst the best players in their position in the country.

“They righted their form [with victory at Fulham] and are looking to get into the top four.”

Palace sit 13th in the Premier League table after picking up 34 points from 27 matches.

They can leapfrog Wolves and Leeds United with a win, as long as results go their way.

The return of Zaha is a massive boost for everyone at Selhurst Park.

He’s had a hand in 11 of their 43 league goals so far this campaign.
