Wenger: Kane can achieve his ambitions with Tottenham

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has suggested that Tottenham can be “ambitious” and win trophies with Harry Kane.

Kane has been Tottenham’s first-choice striker since the 2014/15 campaign. In this time, he has scored 20-plus goals a season for seven straight years.

The Englishman has 215 goals from 327 appearances for Spurs. He has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot twice and he has been named in the PFA Team of the Year on four separate occasions.

Kane is on course to become the all-time top scorer in the top flight but he is yet to win a trophy for Tottenham or England.

Ahead of the summer, he has been linked with a move away from Spurs. Manchester United and Manchester City are among those said to be interested in the £120m-rated forward.

Arsenal’s legendary boss has told beIN Sports, as cited by The Mirror, that Kane may be better off staying at Tottenham:

“Tottenham are in a position where they can be ambitious and we should not maybe judge only today’s situation.

“Tottenham was top of the league in December. There were a few times when they were top of the league when I was still at Arsenal.

“He is the only one who can assess the situation.

“A player like that is always solicited by other clubs and always has to assess his situation.

“He was until now a real top leader at Tottenham. He’s a top leader in the English national team. I respect highly his commitment and his quality.

“What I like today is he could play basically as a Number 10 because the quality of his assists and the speed of his vision and the execution of his speed on long balls is exceptional.”

Kane was with Arsenal as a youngster and Wenger says looking back it was the “wrong decision” to let him leave:

“That’s where he made the wrong decision! I know about his story, but he was very young, just nine years old and his father moved.

“I don’t know exactly what happened, but it was at a very young age.

“The history of every club is full of players you’ve missed that became top stars. Unfortunately…I would like them all to be in the red and white.”
