US World Cup Qualifying 2022

US World Cup Qualifying 2022 begins on September 2, 2021 against El Salvador. They have never felt more pressure than they do now. The team is youthful and very few faces were a part of the previous cycle, but the weight of failing to qualify for 2018 is on Christian Pulisic and the young group’s mind.

They won a tremendous victory against Mexico in Denver. This victory should bring some much-needed confidence to the team, coach Gregg Berhalter and the fans as they prepare for World Cup Qualifying. However, caution is needed. The CONCACAF competition is stronger than it has ever been as more players from the region are joining Major League Soccer, Liga MX, United Soccer League Championship and other leagues in North America and even gaining interest abroad. All of these leagues are continuing to improve along with the scouting of these nations.

The US Men’s National Team has the strongest group of talent on paper it has ever assembled. Global superstars in Christian Pulisic, Sergiño Dest and Weston McKennie competing on the world’s highest stage. That group along with Giovanni Reyna, John Brooks and Tyler Adams and a slew of UEFA Champions League impact players. Zack Steffen and Tim Weah battling for titles next to a host of champions from across European leagues. They have come together bringing incredible skill, but increased expectations on a youthful core. Their resolve and nerve will be tested in the brutal CONCACAF gauntlet. This should be a challenge, but they should come through.

US fan’s are excited about the talent, nervous as their memories of suffering through Cuova in a painful loss to Trinidad and Tobago. That tension and anxiety will only grow as September approaches and be highly volatile as results come in. Keep an eye on chasingacup.com for updates and analysis as World Cup Qualifying approaches and arrives.
