UEFA sets venues for next four Champions League tournaments

The 2021 Champions League final may have just ended a couple months ago, with Kai Havertz’s strike enough to decide the tie in favor of Chelsea over Manchester City, but UEFA is clearly planning ahead for the future.

To that end, the sporting organizing body has decided to announce the venues for the next four Champions League competitions. So, where will fans have to travel to for the upcoming years?

Well, in 2022, the latest iteration of the showcase event will be staged in Russia, specifically in St. Petersburg. Russia were supposed to host this year’s final, but COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works, and so as a result, UEFA have bumped it back until next year.

The following year, Istanbul will be the site of the event. As we all know, Turkey were supposed to host this year’s event but failed to get their COVID-19 situation under control and ultimately the event was moved to Porto.

Then, in 2024, fans will get to visit a very familiar venue: Wembley, as London again will host a huge event. Wembley was, of course, the site of this summer’s EURO 2020 final, during which England, despite being the home team, were unable to find a way past a very tough Italian side and now will have to wait a bit longer to try their luck again at ending their wait for a major international title.

Finally, in 2025, Germany’s famous Allianz Arena will serve as hosts. Munich were initially supposed to host in 2023, but due to all the re-shuffling as a result of COVID-19 that has given that slot to Turkey, Germany will now host the 2025 edition of the UEFA Champions League final.

And the Europa League final? UEFA have decided where those games will be, as well.

Next year’s installment will be hosted in Seville. The Spanish city also hosted several EURO 2020 games this summer, so is no stranger to showcase events. After that, the final will move to Hungary, followed by making a return to Spain, with Bilbao taking care of the 2024 final. And finally, Dublin will take charge of the 2025 match.

Will your favorite teams be taking part in these upcoming events? You’ll just have to wait and see!
