UEFA Euro 2020: Where to watch Ukraine vs Austria live on June 21, 2021

Preview

Ukraine will lock horns with Austria in their final Group C game of Euro 2020 on Monday. The Blue and Yellow and their opponents are poised to secure the second position with the knockout phase just around the corner. For the hosts, the clash will present them with the opportunity to build on the recent win over North Macedonia.

Having been subjected to a disappointing 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands, Andriy Shevchenko’s side bounced back with a 2-1 win over North Macedonia. Roman Yaremchuk and Andriy Yarmolenko both scored their second goals of this Euro, with Ezgjan Alioski scoring the consolation goal after having his penalty kick saved. The performance against North Macedonia was undoubtedly a step up of the one against the Netherlands and Ukraine should be able to build on it to seal the deal against Austria.

At the Euros, their fortunes have seemingly turned as prior to the tournament’s commencement, they had recorded two wins after a run of six games without a win. Knowing that a draw will be enough to secure them a place in the knockout phase, they will seek to hold their ground and get the job done.

On the contrary, Austria will not be interested in the plot the Ukrainians have up their sleeves as a draw will put them at a disadvantage. Franco Foda’s men defeated North Macedonia 3-1 in their opening game but suffered a 2-0 loss to the Netherlands in their second Group C fixture.

Ideally, a win over Shevchenko’s men should be able to take them to the Round of 16 and that is exactly what Franco Foda’s men will be targeting. They have endured a topsy-turvy ride in recent months, winning just four of their last 10 appearances in all competitions. Three of the fixtures have ended in draws with the remaining three also being losses.

On a head-to-head basis, they will be eager to make a point and draw inspiration from the 3-2 win they managed in the recent clash between the pair which took place in 2012.

Team news

Ukraine will test the resolve of Austria without winger Oleksandr Zubkov. The player was substituted in the first game after the Netherlands after picking up went off with a muscle injury. Aside from him, Shevchenko appears to have a fully-fit squad to choose from.

For Austria, there is a boost within their ranks as they will welcome the return of Marko Arnautovic. The former West Ham striker missed the defeat against the Netherlands after serving a one-match ban for insulting another player following his goal in the win over North Macedonia. Essentially, no player is injured for the visitors.
