Spurs are “changing” the perception that Arsenal are the biggest club in north London, according to former Manchester City and West Ham winger Trevor Sinclair.
Tottenham have been seen as inferior to their local rivals for many seasons in terms of success with the 2008 League Cup triumph their only silverware in the last 20 years.
Arsenal have won two Premier League titles and seven FA Cups since 2000 but Sinclair reckons Spurs are changing the narrative as they improve on and off the pitch.
BIG WEEKEND: Arsenal v Spurs, Liverpool, Havertz, Moyes
“It’s a difficult one as you’re looking at the managers and squads of players, I’d probably go for Tottenham,” Sinclair told talkSPORT.
“For me, I’ve just fallen in love with that stadium. It’s probably the best stadium in the world. If you can imagine that being packed with fans every week.
“Historically, Arsenal have been the bigger club but I think that could be changing just with the way Tottenham are going about things with the stadium and the infrastructure at the football club.
“I think they need to start matching that on the pitch. They’ve got a great forward line but defensively they’ve got a lot of work to do.
“Arsenal, historically a better football club, have got more history when it comes to winning trophies in my era.
“I think you look at the managers as well, Arteta is still in his apprenticeship and Jose… I think if you’ve got a strong personality you can play for Jose.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta knows he will come across one of the “most special” attacks in Europe when his Gunners side face Spurs at the weekend, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Gareth Bale likely to be in Jose Mourinho’s line-up.
“It’s very difficult because the level of quality, precision, understanding and chemistry that they have between them makes them probably one of the most special (attacks) in Europe,” Arteta said.
“And they don’t need much. They are able to create their own chances, they are able to link as a team.
“So it is really difficult to do, but we will prepare the game well to try to stop them obviously.”
