TRANSFER TALK: Serie A duo reportedly keen on Liverpool star

Although he had a solid campaign with Switzerland at Euro 2020, Xherdan Shaqiri’s future at Liverpool isn’t 100 per cent certain.

The 29-year-old has struggled for game-time lately and thus could be keen on seeking a new challenge elsewhere in order to secure regular football. The Swiss international first arrived at Anfield from Stoke in a $18 million (£13 million) deal in 2018 and has since made over 60 appearances for the Reds in all comps.

However, in the past two seasons, he’s only made a total of ten appearances, with injuries taking their toll on his securing a place in the starting XI.

Although Shaqiri has a contract until 2022, Liverpool have apparently been keen on moving him on since last season, but several offers from abroad never fully came to fruition.

Well, if are to be believed, he could have quite a few options this summer, with Serie A duo Lazio and Napoli reportedly keen. And the player himself hasn’t quelled the speculation he could make a switch back to Italy this summer.

Indeed, in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, the former Inter man praised Maurizio Sarri’s philosophy as well as the work of Lazio sporting director Igli Tare.

“Igli Tare has been doing an excellent job at Lazio for years,” he noted in his interview.

“If it’s true that he has great respect for me, then I’m honored. I have been following Lazio for a long time, they are a top team. In general, due to my characteristics, I like to play more attacking football and [given that] Sarri focuses on that style], it would be intriguing [to play for him].

If he does move on, Liverpool would potentially demand $21 million (£15 million) from any team who are looking to add him to their roster.
