One good thing about tournaments like the currently ongoing Euro championship is that it allows many players to market their skills to a wide range of clubs.
Indeed, it’s a pretty well known fact that Europe’s biggest clubs do follow these kind of competitions closely to see if they can find any hidden gems to bolster their squads.
The summer transfer market is in full swing, and that means plenty of buzz. And one of the latest concerns Barcelona and the Blaugrana’s reported interest in a player who probably wasn’t a household name a few months ago.
Unless if one follows Serie A closely, one likely wouldn’t have heard of Robin Gosens. The 26-year-old, who usually plays as a left-sided defender but can also be deployed as a midfielder, currently plies his trade for Atalanta. Calcio fans will be well aware of his impressive goal-scoring exploits, which have seen him score 20 goals over the past two seasons for La Dea.
Well, if many weren’t aware of Gosens’s capabilities, they will be now – especially after his Man of the Match performance to help Germany secure a crucial 4-2 win over Portugal. During the highly entertaining match, Gosens scored one and assisted another, and in fact, may have had a brace had his acrobatic effort in the first half not been cancelled due to an offside call.
However, Barcelona aren’t the only ones reportedly interested in acquiring him. Not surprisingly, there are several Serie A sides also keen, having seen what he can do week in, week out in the Italian top flight. And that’s not to mention some Premier League teams also tracking his progress.
Atalanta, meanwhile, will be looking to net at least €35 million for their player, who’s on a contract that runs until 2023.
