Last season saw AC Milan go from league leaders to having to watch cross-town rivals Inter eventually run away with the Scudetto. Despite this disappointment, the Rossoneri ended up securing a top four spot, which means they’re back in the Champions League for the first time since the 2013/2014 season.
However, they’ve been dealt a major blow, with the departures of first choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to PSG and key playmaker Hakan Çalhanoğlu to Inter, plus veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic out with a knee injury shortly after offering the soon-to-be 40-year-old a new contract.
To that end, the Diavolo have already started the process of bringing in replacements, with Lille’s Mike Maignan being signed shortly after his team’s Ligue 1 title triumph. And up front, they are apparently on the cusp of their latest signing to help Ibrahimovic with the goal-scoring responsibilities after failing to get a good ROI on free agent Mario Mandzukic last term.
According to reports, Milan are close to securing the signature of Olivier Giroud. The French striker, who was part of France’s World Cup 2018 winning squad, will arrive with many years of experience, having played for both Arsenal, and most recently, Chelsea in the Premier League.
The 34-year-old will arrive at the Stadio Olimpico fresh off Chelsea’s Champions League winning campaign and has scored nearly 100 goals in his time with the Blues as well as the Gunners.
