Gossip: Man Utd act on £44m defender advice; Ole wants new No.1

Man Utd have received advice over a £44m defender, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thinking about bringing in a new first-choice goalkeeper…

THE RED DEVILS RECEIVE TIP-OFF
Manchester United are scouting Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Burkina Faso international only signed for the Bundesliga outfit from Vitória Guimarães in January 2020 for a fee believed to be worth €25m after add-ons. And the centre-back has already established himself as a regular in Peter Bosz’s starting line-up, making 29 appearances in all competitions this season.

And now the Daily Express claim Man Utd ‘have been scouting’ Tapsoba ‘after receiving a tip-off from a well-respected figure in Germany’. There are also ‘two other Premier League clubs’ interested in the defender with Solskjaer making a centre-back his top target this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen are ‘not willing to listen to any offers below’ £44m with Tapsoba now tied down under a new contract until 2026. The report adds that an unnamed source ‘reached out to contacts at United last year and advised them to take a look at Tapsoba’. However, United’s ‘verdict on the defender remains undisclosed’.

JEEPERS KEEPERS
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could bring in a new first-choice goalkeeper in the summer despite having David de Gea and Dean Henderson at the club, according to reports.

Henderson and De Gea have been fighting it out for the No.1 jersey all season with the England international set to get some Premier League game time this month as his team-mate looks after his newborn baby. Despite having two top keepers at the club, Duncan Castles in the Daily Record claims that Man Utd ‘are considering recruiting a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer’.

Castles claims that it puts a ‘question mark over the futures’ of the duo with Man Utd ‘understood to have opened conversations over an alternative solution to the disputed goalkeeper position’. The report adds: ‘Although such a move would enable the club to cash in on Henderson’s market value as young home-grown talent, finding a suitor capable of taking on De Gea’s inflated salary is likely to prove more problematic.’

The Daily Express story comes at the same time as The Sun claims that Henderson ‘expects’ to be the club’s No.1 next campaign, leaving De Gea with an ‘uncertain future’.
