Liverpool have chosen the man they want to replace Sadio Mane, while Man Utd are in for a Leicester City defender…
LIVERPOOL READY TO ‘BREAK THE MARKET’
Liverpool have identified Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele as the perfect replacement for Sadio Mane, according to reports in Spain.
The France international has struggled with form and injuries since his £120million move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 but has played on a more consistent basis this term. Dembele has contributed ten goals and four assists in 36 matches in all competitions.
His return to form and fitness has now reportedly alerted Liverpool, according to Spanish website Fichajes, who claim the Premier League club have chosen him as their replacement for Mane. The Senegal international has so far provided his worst goal return (seven) in the Premier League since joining the Reds from Southampton in 2016.
And Fichajes claims that Mane has ‘disappointed’ Jurgen Klopp with his performances and they understand that the forward has received ‘offers’ from ‘several major teams’. And because of that ‘Liverpool is already targeting a name that would break the market’ and that man is Dembele. Liverpool are interested in ‘closing the signing’ in the summer transfer window ‘taking advantage of the fact that he has not yet renewed’ his contract at Barcelona.
The report adds that Dembele has ‘a profile that fits perfectly within Klopp’s plan’ and ‘shines when he lives in a context of chaos, which Liverpool can offer him at all times’.
MAN UTD EYE FOFANA
Manchester United are monitoring Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana as they look to strengthen their defence this summer, according to reports in France.
The Foxes brought the highly-rated 20-year-old to the King Power Stadium from St Etienne in October 2020 with the Frenchman playing 29 matches in all competitions during his first season. His strong performances have already turned heads this campaign with pundits urging various clubs to sign the defender.
And now Foot Mercato claims that Fofana ‘is one of the players closely followed by Manchester United’ after ‘the performances of the defensive rock have aroused the curiosity of many English clubs’. The arousal is said to be ‘particularly’ strong ‘with Manchester United, who would like to recruit’ Fofana.
However, there is reason for Man Utd to be ‘worried’ as ‘it would be necessary to pay a similar sum’ for Fofana as the £80m they paid for Harry Maguire in 2019.
