Touching: Why Chelsea boss Tuchel paid for major heart operation for his ex-housekeeper’s son

Thomas Tuchel is undeniably one of, if not the, most in-form coaches in world football. After arriving at a struggling Chelsea side, the German boss transformed the club’s fortunes, taking them within inches of an FA Cup trophy while guiding them to the UEFA Champions League title.

This season, the London giants are seen by many as the favourites for the Premier League crown, having started the campaign with three wins and a draw. As a result, the former PSG tactician finds himself dead-centre in the eyes of the media, and due to that, one incredibly story involving the German and his former housekeeper has seen the light of day.

The 48-year-old spent two years in Paris and upon moving to the French capital, he hired a Filipino housekeeper for his residence in the Hauts-de-Seine district. According to Canal Sports, the then Les Parisiens gaffer was left in awe by his employee’s hard work.

However, after having a conversation with his housekeeper, he found out that there was a heart-breaking reason for her non-stop dedication to the job. Her son was in need of a major heart operation, one that likely costs a lot, and was thus working from dusk till dawn in order to fund this medical procedure. After hearing her story, Tuchel showed his class and generosity, offering to pay for the heart operation from his own pocket.

The housekeeper’s son underwent a successful operation and recovered well, but despite this, Thomas’ act of kindness did not end there. The lady opened up about her goal of buying a house in the Philippines in the hopes of retiring in her home country with her family; however, she feared not being able to afford this dream. Thomas stepped in once again, this time buying her a villa in the Southeast Asian country, thus making her wish come true.

Tuchel’s time with his housekeeper was cut short not too long after, as PSG’s decision to sack him brought an end to his stay in Paris. Regardless, this story is one that will be remembered for quite some time.

While this touching story might be brought upon in an upcoming press conference, the German tactician cannot afford to lose focus on the task ahead: Sunday’s London derby vs Tottenham. The Blues will be looking to beat their city rivals but a trip to the northern part of the English capital will be no walk in the park.
