Tottenham reluctance sees Wolves target loanee Vinicius

Tottenham’s reluctance to sign Carlos Vinicius permanently has resulted in interest from Wolves, according to reports.

The striker joined Jose Mourinho’s men on loan from Benfica in October.

The deal includes a £36million buy-out fee but Spurs are unwilling to spend that this summer.

They will only offer £17million for the Brazilian, which will likely be rejected by his parent club.

Their transfer hesitation has led to interest from another Premier League side.

According to Portuguese source TVI 24 (via Goal), Wolves have lined up Vinicius as a potential signing.

They’re hoping to bring the striker to Molineux if Spurs drop out of the transfer race.

Wolves officials are confident about a move considering his tough time in north London.

Mourinho has shown little faith in Vinicius, playing him on just nine occasions in the Premier League.

He’s had to rely on cup competitions such as the FA Cup and Europa League for his best opportunities.

In Europe, he scored six goals in nine matches before Spurs were knocked out by Dinamo Zagreb.

In the FA Cup, he netted a hat-trick as they beat minnows Marine 5-0 in the third round.

Wolves see the best in Vinicius and think he would do well in the Premier League with more game time.

Vinicius could provide Raul Jimenez with backup once he returns from the fractured skull he suffered against Arsenal.

Wolves brought in a loanee of their own to cover for Jimenez in his absence. Willian Jose was signed from Real Sociedad but is yet to score a Prem goal for the West Midlands outfit.

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo can choose between two Prem loanees when deciding on Jimenez’s backup.

Vinicius might just be the best option given his form at Benfica. He was the top goalscorer in Portugal’s Liga NOS last term, picking up 18 goals in 32 appearances.

No matter who Wolves sign, Jimenez is bound to remain as Nuno’s first-choice striker.

They’ve missed his presence hugely this season and are struggling to get to the 40-point mark.

They also suffered a blow recently as star man Pedro Neto came off injured in the 1-0 win at Fulham.
