Steve Bruce believes Newcastle United have turned a corner as only Man United and Chelsea have beaten them “over the last seven or eight games”.
The Magpies are deep in the relegation mire after failing to win any of their last five Premier League fixtures.
They could fall into the bottom three if Fulham beat Leeds at Craven Cottage today.

But despite the Cottagers’ upturn in form and his own side’s perilous position, Bruce was only interested in the positives.
Speaking about Fulham’s resurgence in the Newcastle Chronicle, he said: “They have done over the last few weeks but let’s not forget they are still below us.
“You get a bad run, and ours was December/January. Over the last seven or eight games, only Man United and Chelsea have beaten us.
“Things have picked up. Now we have the back end of it and it’s how many points can we put on the board.”
Bruce’s revisionist history failed to mention the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace which formed the filling in wins over Everton and Southampton.
Nevertheless, nine points from their last eight fixtures have kept their heads above water – just.
A repeat in their final eight games would see them finish on 37 points, within touching distance of the magical 40 points, thought to guarantee top-flight safety.
And while the third relegation spot is being seen as a straight dogfight between his side, Fulham and Brighton, Bruce is refusing to rule out Southampton and Burnley being sucked into mix.
“There’s no doubt we are in a fight of six or seven. I keep saying it’s an accumulation of points.
“We have gone three unbeaten but picked up just three. The quicker you get there the better.
“There are still six or seven games and a quarter of the season.”
