Spurs ‘do not worry’ PSG as they look to keep hold of Poch

Paris Saint-Germain are confident that they will hang onto head coach Mauricio Pochettino amid interest from Spurs, according to a report in France.

Rumours emerged on Tuesday that Pochettino was ‘seriously considering a switch back to the club as he is unhappy in Paris’ with the ex-Tottenham boss finding ‘the nature of PSG more of a headache to manage than expected’.

And just this morning a report emerged in The Athletic confirming that Spurs ‘are in talks’ with Pochettino ‘about a shock return to the club this summer’.

It is understood Pochettino is ‘attracted by the idea of a quick return to the London club and to English football after failing to settle in the French capital’.

However, RMC Sport in France now claim that PSG ‘are counting on their coach’ as they are reluctant to replace another manager so soon after Thomas Tuchel left the club.

It is said that the rumours linking Pochettino with a return to Spurs ‘do not worry Paris Saint-Germain too much’ as the 49-year-old ‘has never shown negative signs towards his leaders or desire to leave’.

PSG have ‘no wish’ to part company with Pochettino but they are unsure of his position on the matter, despite holding meetings on Monday about transfer targets and plans for the new season.

Pochettino’s assistant, Jesus Perez, insisted during an interview back in March that the former Argentina international will be back as manager of Spurs one day.

Perez said: “Every day Daniel [Levy] crossed to Mauricio’s office and he joined us on the topic we were discussing.

“Then most of the time we had breakfast with him and lunch at the training ground.

“We, as a staff, never started lunch until Mauricio or Daniel was at the table. That’s something we always respected.

“Mauricio and Daniel still text each other and they have a very good relationship. We don’t have any bad feelings with Daniel. The other way around. It was a professional decision.

“At some point, we had to split but we will be back at Spurs for sure.”
