Spurs players miss key aspect of Poch training under Mourinho

A number of Tottenham players reportedly wish they were worked harder in training by Jose Mourinho.

Having started the season brilliantly, Spurs’ form has dipped significantly with them taking just 12 points from their last 12 league games, leaving them ninth in the table and raising questions over Mourinho’s future.

The top ten disappointments of the Premier League season

And The Athletic report that the players are unhappy with Mourinho’s “boot the ball” tactics and are concerned at the lack of ‘workload and intensity’ in training.

Mauricio Pochettino was a famously hard taskmaster, with players often complaining about double sessions and infrequent days off.

But they are now said to be looking back on those days fondly, with Mourinho granting too many days off – especially as a reward for a victory – and implementing far fewer double sessions.

The Athletic claims multiple sources have ‘questioned whether the intensity of Mourinho’s sessions can ever replicate match situations’, with many players said to be ‘relieved’ when a free week ahead of the FA Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers saw them worked consistently hard in training.
