Spurs have the transfer “scope” to “leapfrog” Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League as a report looks at the clubs’ wage bills.
Tottenham have fallen behind some of their rivals over the last couple of seasons after they finished fourth in the 2018/19 season and reached the Champions League final.
Last season they could only manage a sixth-placed finish and they are in exactly the same position so far this term, although they are three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with nine matches to go.

Spurs spent out of a number of players in the summer with Carlos Vinicius, Joe Rodon, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty Gareth Bale and Pierre-Emerick Hojbjerg arriving in north London to improve Jose Mourinho’s squad.
However, according to Football Insider‘s ‘financial guru’ Kieran Maguire, Tottenham could be a force to be reckoned with in the transfer market due to their lack of expenditure on wages compared to other top clubs.
Maguire said: “They’ve got a lot of flexibility. They earn more from matchday sales than anyone else. They’ve even leapfrogged Man United.
“Assuming that on the back of the vaccination we return to having crowds, they will end up with the highest matchday revenue in the Premier League, which is a really amazing achievement.
“So 2020 has hit them hard. But even with that taken into account, their wages-to-turnover was still only 59 per cent.
“It was 45 per cent the previous year so it has gone up but it still substantially lower than other clubs.
“Spurs’ bill is £181m, Arsenal’s is £225m, Chelsea’s £283m, Man United’s £284m. So their wage bill is £100m less than two of the clubs that they need to leapfrog. So they do have the scope to spend more.”
Meanwhile, Spurs striker Dane Scarlett has begun his first professional contract at the club after turning 17.
A Spurs statement on Sunday read: “We are delighted to announce that Dane Scarlett’s first professional contract with the Club has now been formalised.
“The contract for the young forward will run until 2023, having been triggered following his 17th birthday.”
