Souness shuts down ‘daft talk’ of a Liverpool crisis

Graeme Souness has insisted that barring a “few lapses of concentration” Liverpool have been playing really good football of late.

Liverpool are currently on a run of four league defeats from their previous six outings. This includes three straight losses to Brighton, Manchester City and Leicester.

Liverpool’s poor form has seen them drop down to sixth in the Premier League. They are now 16 points behind leaders Man City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side did return to winning ways in midweek, though. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane scored as they beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in their Champions League round of 32 first leg.

Writing in his Sky Sports column, as cited by The Independent, Souness suggested that Liverpool fans should not be “panicking” despite their position in the table:

“If I’m on the touchline watching that Liverpool team play, I’m delighted with the play. I’m not panicking as a Liverpool fan, all that daft talk out there is just that: daft talk. This is still a group of players capable of winning trophies.

“I am like most Liverpool supporters – I think the football has been good enough to win games, with a few lapses of concentration in games.

“You can never underestimate what confidence does to players. There will be individuals in that group that will need to feel much loved, and that everything is rosy in the garden.

“They’ve got some leaders, and they are the players who need to stand up on a daily basis. They make sure everybody is at it in training, and on matchdays, whether it’s an arm around the shoulder or a pointed finger. I think they will be fine going forward. I think they will be fine against Everton.”
