Souness: Salah is ‘the most selfish player I’ve ever seen’

Graeme Souness has suggested that Mo Salah can get away with his selfishness because he is a “star” for Liverpool.

Salah joined Liverpool from Italian giants Roma in June 2017. He signed for an initial fee of around £36.5m, which was a club-record for the Reds at the time.

The forward has been a superb asset to Liverpool since his move. He has been one of the world’s most prolific goalscorers in recent years.

Salah has scored at least 20 goals in each of his seasons with Liverpool so far. He has continued that great form this campaign, netting 24 from his 34 outings in all competitions.

The Eqyptian got on the scoresheet again in midweek as Liverpool beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in the Champions League knockout stages.

Appearing on Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post podcast, Souness praised Salah for his “consistency” for Liverpool:

“I have to say Salah is a star because, you come back to consistency, he scores goals every year.

“He’s also the most selfish player I’ve ever seen and that isn’t a problem for a striker.

“I’m sure his teammates wouldn’t be happy on occasion but he is a star.

“Mane as well – it’s a word you wouldn’t associate with Mane but he’s a proper warrior, I don’t think anyone gets an easy ride when you play against him.

“You could kick him in the first minute and then every five minutes after that but he’ll be back after you at every turn, he’s a real player.”
