Souness: Kane should leave Spurs if they miss out on top four

Graeme Souness has encouraged Harry Kane to discuss leaving Tottenham with his agent if they fail to reach the top four or if they do not win a trophy.

After making his Premier League full debut for Spurs in April 2014, Kane has established himself as one of the leading forwards in the world.

The striker has been their first choice attacker from the 2014/15 season onwards. He scored 31 goals that term from his 51 appearances in all competitions.

Kane has now scored 20-plus goals in all competitions for seven consecutive seasons. His best scoring season to date came in 2017/18 as he netted 41 times from his 48 outings.

The Englishman is enjoying a particularly strong campaign this year. He currently has 16 goals and 13 assists from his 25 Premier League games.

The forward will be eager to make an impact against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday. He has a great record against the Gunners so far. He has eleven goals and three assists from 13 meetings.

A win on Sunday would move Spurs just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. They are also set to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Souness told The Times that Kane would “walk” into any team in the world:

“If they fail to do so (reach top four) or if they fail to pick up silverware, ie beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final next month, then Kane should be having a word with his agent about new employment.

“Even if they beat City, he might still want to think about leaving. He turns 28 in the summer, and time is running out for Spurs to deliver collectively on what his individual efforts deserve. And those individual efforts have been world class.

“Unlike some in the punditry profession, great is not a term I confer lightly on footballers but Kane has the right to be called that.

“Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Manchester City — he would walk into the starting line-up of any of those teams. The window of opportunity to do so while in his prime is not big.”
