Solskjaer pleased that Lingard is ‘back to himself’ at West Ham

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is delighted that Jesse Lingard’s move to West Ham has “really worked out” for all of the parties involved.

Lingard joined Man United when he was just seven years old. After successful loan spells with the likes of Brighton and Derby, the midfielder became a regular for his boyhood club from the 2015/16 season onwards.

The Englishman has made just over 200 appearances for the Red Devils since his debut. He has helped them win the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup.

OPINION: Man United-Milan lives up to an illustrious history

Lingard played 40 times for Man United last season, but he fell down the pecking order at the start of this campaign. Up until January, he failed to make a single Premier League appearance.

This led to his loan move to West Ham which was completed during the winter transfer window. The Hammers are enjoying a brilliant season as they sit fifth in the table after 27 games.

The 28-year-old has hit the ground running for his new club. He grabbed an impressive brace in his debut as West Ham beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park.

Lingard now has four goals and two assists from his six Premier League games for the Hammers.

The attacker will not be available this weekend as the Hammers travel north to face his parent club at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer told reporters on Friday, as cited by BBC Sport, that it was a “no-brainer” to let Lingard get some games elsewhere:

“It’s really worked out for Jesse and it’s worked out for us as a club as well.

“We know Jesse’s position is as a number ten. We’ve got Bruno there so for me it was a no-brainer to get Jesse a chance to prove himself and play some football again.

“He has been really bright for them and he is finally back to himself.”
