Man Utd are ready to offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new contract at the end of the current season if he maintains current standards, according to reports.
The Red Devils have performed slightly above expectations this season with a title challenge looking likely only a couple of weeks ago.
Man Utd are currently five points behind Man City, who have game in hand, with Pep Guardiola’s men now in charge of the race to win the Premier League.

After only picking up five points out of a possible 12 during their last four matches, United have given themselves a mountain to climb but they still have a chance.
And now The Sun claim that Man Utd are likely to reward Solskjaer with a new contract but won’t open talks until the end of the season.
The report adds that ‘club chiefs want to keep fighting for the title and qualify for the Champions League before Solskjaer is offered a new deal.’
‘United could hand him another two-year deal’ with Solskjaer only having 16 months to run on his existing contract at Old Trafford.
The Norwegian, who has had to make it through some tough times at Man Utd, is set for an ‘increase in wages, taking his annual salary to around £6million before bonuses.’
The inconsistent nature of their recent results means the Red Devils hierarchy are keen to wait it out until the end of the current season.
Meanwhile, Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand accused his former club of “choking” in the Premier League title race.
“You can’t defend it,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel. “Man United were sitting pretty at the top of the league.
“You see the league table, you look at the results, you get excited. When you put yourself in that position, Man United have to strike. When there’s an opportunity you’ve got to go. The problem is we’ve let this opportunity slip through our hands.
“You can see Man City with their experience, they’ve smelt blood, they’ve put their heads down, they’ve gone. But Man United have stuttered, we’ve got the choke going in and out, haven’t got it quite working properly.
“We have choked, it’s simple as that. I’d put us out of the title challenge unless we go on a run and we change our habits and our lack of consistency.
“But I haven’t seen enough to suggest we can go on a 10, 15-game winning streak. We’re tripping ourselves up all the time.”
