Solskjaer ‘delighted’ as Man Utd make City wait for PL title

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased with Manchester United’s “great reaction” to their busy schedule against Aston Villa.

Man United started the game brightly but it was Villa who took the lead in the first half. Fred gifted possession to the hosts. The ball was fed to Bertrand Traore who found the net with a superb strike.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side equalised seven minutes after the restart. They were awarded a penalty as Douglas Luiz brought down Paul Pogba. Bruno Fernandes sent Emiliano Martinez the wrong way as he converted the spot-kick.

United completed their comeback a few minutes later. Mason Greenwood did well to turn Tyrone Mings inside the penalty area before he clinically placed his effort into the bottom corner.

Edinson Cavani made it three with a header in the final few minutes. There was more drama to come as Ollie Watkins was shown his second yellow card late on for a dive.

As cited by BBC Sport, Solskjaer was “pleased” with all of his players as they secured another win on the road:

“Delighted, always going to be difficult after you have been in Europe and didn’t get back until half 4/5am on Friday. Great reaction, even though I felt we were the better team in the first half.

“I can’t blame them, the advantage of being fresh is quite high and we could have scored once or twice, they score from nothing, good goal, but I am pleased with everyone.”

On the penalty: “He goes through Paul Pogba from the back and Paul is very good at shielding the ball, Bruno got back to his jump.”

On Greenwood: “He is top. I was thinking curl it far post, but he goes near – he has all the finishes, he worked really hard today and showed what he can do.

“Massive result because it takes a little bit of the pressure away and we can go into the next one confident, we know it’ll be a physical test but we have to make the most of it. You just have to see how everyone is tomorrow and Tuesday morning.”

On delaying City winning the title: “That’s a good thing, that’s the best thing, at least we don’t drive into a blue army tonight, we’ll try to delay it as long as we can.”
