Sir Alex Ferguson has suggested that Bruno Fernandes has qualities that Manchester United have missed in attacking areas.
Fernandes was a long-term target for the Red Devils before he did eventually join them in January 2020. He signed for them from Sporting Lisbon for an initial fee of around £47m.
The midfielder was in fine form for the Portuguese outfit that term as he grabbed eight goals and seven assists from 17 outings in Liga NOS.

Fernandes took that form into the Premier League with United as he hit the ground running. He was involved in 15 goals from his first 14 outings in the league.
The 26-year-old has been one of United’s best players this term. He has already established himself as one of their leaders as he has lifted the performances of players around him.
The Portuguese international has 28 goals and 17 assists for Man United from his 57 outings this season across all competitions.
As cited by The Mirror, Sir Alex has told the BBC that Fernandes has been “fantastic” for Man Utd:
“He’s been fantastic the lad.
“He has scored important goals and even when he’s taking his penalty kicks he’s very, very confident about them.
“I can’t even think of a goalkeeper who has got anywhere near his penalty kicks.
“So he’s calm, his shots from outside the box are always a threat and he’s got that thing that United have really needed over the last few years, the ability to make a pass in the final third and open up defences, I think that’s important.”
Elsewhere, Fernandes has suggested that he would love the chance to “speak with” Sir Alex:
“So, that is one of my biggest regrets in the club until now.
“I met him already but never had the chance to speak with him like I would like to do.
“I think everyone who watched Manchester United in the past remembers Sir Alex. [That is true] for me, growing up and seeing the club, being a fan of the club and seeing the development of the team.
“I would like to have a conversation with him and understand, from his point of view, what he thinks about me and what I can improve or still improve in my game to be better.”
