Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a thigh problem.
The striker, who has not been involved in the Blades’ last three matches, picked up the injury during training.
He is aiming to return in time for Sheffield United’s pre-season ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

In an Instagram post, Sharp said: “Always gutting to miss games so to be ruled out for the remainder of the season hurts.
“Sadly the injury was worse than I’d hoped but operation went well and will be back stronger next season to get my 250th goal in front of a packed Bramall Lane.”
In a separate post announcing the news, Sheffield United said: “Speedy recovery, skipper!”
Sharp has appeared in the Premier League 16 times this term, scoring three goals.
Those goals have helped the Blades to pick up some rare points in their tough season.
He opened his account for the campaign with a late equaliser against Fulham, helping Sheffield United to get their first point.
After a long period on the bench, Sharp returned to the side for their 1-0 win over Newcastle.
He bagged from the penalty spot as they picked up their first win in 2020/21.
Sharp’s most recent goal came in the 2-1 victory over relegation rivals West Brom.
The Blades went behind to a 41st-minute Matt Phillips opener, with Jayden Bogle equalising after the break.
The 35-year-old poked home the winner from close range in the 73rd-minute as Sheffield United claimed a huge win.
However, their poor results have since continued and they’re now staring at relegation to the Championship.
Chris Wilder left Bramall Lane in mid-March and is yet to be replaced by owner Prince Abdullah.
Sharp will be hoping for a return to form in the second tier.
He has a great record in the Championship, having scored 23 goals during their promotion campaign in 2018/19.
The first-team could change massively during the summer if rumours are to be believed.
Midfield star Sander Berge, originally signed from Genk, is wanted by Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Liverpool.
Centre-back John Egan may also stay in the top flight after impressing during the last two seasons.
The Blades’ next match is against Wolves on Saturday April 17.
