Ramos looks set for Real Madrid exit after pay cut refusal

Sergio Ramos looks set to be leaving Real Madrid this summer after contract talks have stalled.

The Spaniard has reportedly been unhappy with the offer of a ten per cent salary reduction which would be taken from everyone at the club in what he believed was a bid to raise funds for a move for Kylian Mbappe.

The report by Spanish outlet Ondo Cero says that this is one of the main reasons for Ramos’ desire to leave the club after 16 years.

The arrival of David Alaba at the Bernabeu also spells trouble for the veteran star with the Austrian defender able to play in the centre-back role currently occupied by Ramos.

The Los Blancos captain has been at Madrid since 2005 and scored 101 goals whilst winning four Champions League medals.

Other reports in Spain suggest that another reason for the imminent exit of Ramos is his frail relationship with club president Florentino Perez.

Perez has publicly been called out by Ramos regarding previous decisions and there has also been a high profile clash between the two men following Real’s exit from the Champions League to Ajax in 2019 in the changing rooms.

The president who has been the figurehead for the European Super League is not only  looking to change the dynamic of world football, but also reshape Real to become a more profitable club with Ramos’ exit expected to be a step towards that.

Perez is also believed to be trying to get Gareth Bale’s mammoth £600,000 per-week contract off the books in order to help.

This all comes at a tough time for the defender who wasn’t selected in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for the Euros, despite the manager only naming 24 players from a possible 26.

The news will put multiple clubs around world football on high alert as they hope to lure in the 35-year-old who has been linked to a move to the Premier League and China in recent years.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be considering bringing Ramos to Old Trafford to play alongside Harry Maguire in an attempt to boost Manchester United’s defensive stability to push for the Premier League title next season.
