Aguero ‘desperate’ to secure Barca move following City exit

Man City striker Sergio Aguero is reportedly ‘desperate’ to join Barcelona in the summer.

The prolific goalscorer practically sent the rumour mill into meltdown when he announced he would be leaving the Etihad in June.

Aguero has since been linked with a host of top clubs, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

But it’s Spanish giants Barcelona who seem to be leading the race for his signature.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (via Express), the Premier League legend is ‘desperate’ to join Ronald Koeman at the Nou Camp this summer.

His main reason is a link-up with fellow legend Lionel Messi, who is now 33 years old and surely nearing the end of his incredible career.

It’s reported that Aguero is willing to take a pay cut to play alongside his friend Messi. They have spent years representing Argentina together at the highest level.

Barcelona see Aguero as a shrewd signing, too. The Catalan giants are running on a tight budget at the moment and view the 32-year-old as a more viable option than Erling Haaland.

Haaland, who has scored 25 goals in 26 Bundesliga appearances this season, will cost them upwards of £130million this year.

It’s not clear whether Barca would even be able to afford his release clause in 2022, which is rumoured to be £68million.

Aguero has become a hero in Manchester since joining from Atletico Madrid in July 2011.

He was signed for £36million and quickly repaid that money by consistently scoring goals at the Etihad.

His best moment in a City shirt came at the end of the 2011/12 campaign, when he scored a stunning injury-time winner against QPR to snatch the Premier League title from Man Utd.

Aguero’s last year at City has been plagued by injuries. He’s been held back to just 10 Premier League appearances this term, also limiting his goal tally to two.

However, the Argentinian rolled back the years against Crystal Palace on Saturday as City won 2-0.

He fired a great strike past Palace keeper Vicente Guaita to open the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Aguero also featured on Tuesday night as City eased past PSG to reach their first ever Champions League final.
