Serbia national team celebrate after qualifying for the FIFA Futsal World Cup

FIFA Futsal World Cup record

Reaching the 2012 edition in Thailand was the first time Serbia had qualified for a FIFA Futsal World Cup. The newcomers impressed in the group stage and even progressed to the last 16 as section winners. However, there they faced a formidable Argentina side, who proved too strong for the Serbians.  Can the eastern Europeans do better in Lithuania in their second Futsal World Cup appearance?

The road to Lithuania

Serbia made the battle for a Futsal World Cup ticket particularly exciting. After finishing as runners-up behind Spain in their group, they had to face Finland in a play-off. Following a narrow 1-0 home victory in the first leg, there was a goal-filled and nerve-jangling 5-5 draw in the return fixture in Finland that booked the Serbians’ ticket to Lithuania.
