‘Sceptical’ Spurs want younger boss than Rangnick

Tottenham have shortlisted former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick in their search for a new manager but they are looking for a younger boss, according to reports.

Rangnick is 62 so absolutely does not fit the profile being targeted by Tottenham as they try and replace Jose Mourinho.

Falk – head of football at BILD and clearly being briefed by Rangnick or his ‘people’ – claims that Tottenham are sceptical about the case being made by the German, who has previously held talks with Manchester United without being employed.

It seems more likely that Tottenham are fixated on 48-year-old Brendan Rodgers, with reports on Friday suggesting that they were ready to offer the Leicester boss three times his current salary to persuade him to join the club.

Daniel Levy has ‘dared’ with Spurs; now he has to ‘do’

“We have already talked about how Rangnick and Tottenham could become hot, and I have now heard quite specifically that he was offered the job,” said Falk on Friday.

“In any case, he is on the shortlist, and that means talks will come.

“From the club, he still hears a bit of scepticism, but he’s already held talks with Manchester United and Everton in the UK in the past that never quite worked out.

“There must have been reasons for that, we don’t know them all, but it’s nice that he’s now being discussed.

“They need a new Tuchel, and in the UK, they believe the German coaches have done a lot of groundwork, which could be a big ace in the hole for Rangnick to Tottenham.”

Spurs had targeted Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, but he has ended that speculation by signing a new deal with the Dutch club.

Rodgers leads the betting for the manager’s job, with Brighton boss Graham Potter and Rangnick the next two names on the list. Nuno Santo and Scott Parker are also in the running.
