Sassuolo boss Roberto De Zerbi has said he doesn’t want his side to play their game against AC Milan on Wednesday, in the wake of their attempt to join the Super League.
Milan, along with fellow Serie A clubs Inter and Juventus, announced their intention to become the ‘founding members’ of the breakaway Euper League on Sunday evening, along with nine other European clubs.
Super League founder and Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli has admitted the project is no longer viable following the withdrawal of the six English clubs, with others now following suit.

The news rocked the world of football with pundits, fans, other clubs and stakeholders voicing their anger at the backhanded plan to form the ‘closed competition’.
Just 48 hours later, the project has fallen flat on its arse, with Ed Woodward resigning from Manchester United as a result and John W Henry publicly apologising to the Liverpool fans.
But Graeme Souness has joined many others in insisting the evildoers must still be punished for their roles in getting it off the ground in the first place, claiming Woodward’s resignation is “just the beginning”.
And the Sassuolo manager has joined that criticism, but has suggested something much more bold than anyone else so far.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s clash with AC Milan on Wednesday, De Zerbi said that he has suggested to the club’s hierarchy that Sassuolo don’t take part in the game.
Sempre Milan reports that De Zerbi said: “This is like a coup d’etat in football. I don’t want to play the game tomorrow because Milan are one of the founders of the Super League. I told the club and the players my idea but if the club force me to go, I’ll go.
“It’s like the son of a labourer can’t dream of becoming a surgeon, a lawyer or a doctor. It’s as if they had told me as a kid in the schoolyard, that ball’s mine. I’m taking it. Football has a role in society that’s different from other sports.”
