Mane reveals how Liverpool are dealing with ‘really complicated time’

Sadio Mane says it has been hard to get used to not “winning every single game” this season with Liverpool going through a difficult time in domestic football.

The Reds beat RB Leipzig 2-0 during the week to send them into the quarter-finals of the Champions League but the picture domestically is very different.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are out of both domestic cups with their last match in the Premier League a 1-0 loss at home to lowly Fulham.

It was their sixth Premier League defeat at Anfield on the bounce and it now means Liverpool are eighth in the standings, eight points off fourth-placed Chelsea and 28 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

On their struggles this season, Liverpool forward Mane told reporters: “As a professional footballer it is not easy when you are used to winning every single game like we were used to last year.

“At times it was tough, but not like it is now, which is a really complicated time, but we are more experienced now and we know how to deal with things. You just have to stick together and be as positive as you can.”

Mane added: “Being in the top four right now is our main target, but to win the Champions League is our main, main target. It won’t be easy because we are going to face the best teams in Europe, but we are here to beat the best in the world. We will do everything possible to go for it and to win the Champions League.”

Meanwhile, Klopp says he is concentrating on domestic matters, starting on Monday against Wolves, despite their Champions League progress.

Klopp said: “It would be a dream eh? Why not? But we are not in a situation sitting here and telling the fairytale of how it could end.

“What we think, what we wish, what we dream of is completely different but being ready for Wolves is the only thing we’re busy with.

“Using the positives from the last game would be helpful. Yes, it’s the last eight but the last eight is historically tricky.

“I am not 100 per cent clear who are the other seven or the few who look likely will be in but there are no easy games.

“In these games can we give them a proper game? Yes, definitely that’s the plan but not today, in three or four weeks.

“But we try to use it as good as possible.”
