Roma have offered a new contract to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was managed by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, according to reports.
Mkhitaryan joined Man United in July 2016 from Borussia Dortmund for around £27m. This came two months after Mourinho took over at Old Trafford.
The midfielder got eleven goals and five assists across all competitions during his debut season.
If Solskjaer is sacked then Guardiola must go too…
The Armenian international was part of the squad that won the double under Mourinho in 2016/17. This came as they won the Europa League and EFL Cup. They ended up finishing sixth in the Premier League, though.
Mkhitaryan started the 2017/18 season brightly but he soon fell down the pecking order. This led to his departure during the winter window in 2018. He joined Arsenal as part of a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez join Man United.
The 32-year-old stayed with the Gunners until he joined Roma on loan at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
The move was made permanent in August 2020 and he has impressed since making the move to Serie A. He has 24 goals and 19 assists from his 74 outings for Roma.
Mkhitaryan’s current deal with the Italian outfit expires this summer. It has been announced that Mourinho will replace the current Roma boss, Paulo Fonseca, ahead of next season.
The Mirror have reported that Roma are to offer the midfielder a new two-year deal to be managed by Mourinho again.
This deal will be worth around £3.8m per season. The report adds that the player has been given 48 hours to decide whether to accept the offer.
Elsewhere, David James has likened Paul Pogba to Gary Neville:
“As soon as it went to penalties, I was watching David de Gea in the clips of the huddle when the team got together – and I said to myself: he is not confident. He didn’t look confident.
“In Euro 2004 I was getting prepared and Gary Neville was just following me around saying, ‘You can do it! You can do it! You can save it. You’re the best! Blah, blah…
“I was trying to be composed. I looked at Darius Vassell and went, “he (Neville) is doing my head in.
“Pogba was doing it to David de Gea and I was thinking, ‘please don’t be doing what Gary Neville did.’”
