Rodgers ‘would walk down to London’ for Tottenham job

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers “would walk down to London” if he was offered the Tottenham job, according to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Mourinho was relieved of his duties on Monday after their 2-2 draw against Everton on Friday saw their hopes of finishing in the top four become more unlikely.

Rodgers is currently second favourite with the bookies to land the job in north London with RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann currently favourite.

BIG MIDWEEK: Mourinho-less Spurs, Werner, Allardyce

And Robinson reckons Rodgers would jump at the opportunity to manage Spurs despite Leicester being higher in the table and winning a Premier League title as recently as 2015.

Robinson told Football Insider: “A lot of managers would walk down to London if they were offered the Spurs job and I think Rodgers is one of them.

“Tottenham are a bigger club than Leicester. You look where they are in the league and Leicester fans would argue differently. But when you look at the stadium and the squad at Spurs…

“Yes, Leicester have won the Premier League but they do not have the stature and the history of Spurs. There is no comparison.

“If Brendan Rodgers gets offered the job I am sure he would take it. Leicester and Tottenham, there is no competition.”

Tottenham have the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday but first they face Southampton on Wednesday.

And Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl believes the sacking of Mourinho now makes the prospect of facing Spurs even tougher.

Hasenhuttl told reporters ahead of the match: “We don’t have a long time to prepare for the game, and it makes it even more difficult now.

“It’s even more difficult because at the weekend they have a big final, but we have to handle it and concentrate on us.

“It changes everything. Because everything you normally tell your players, what they have to expect, from one day to the next, is not there any more.

“We have a few hours to concentrate for this and we will try to find a team which is fit enough to compete against them.”
