Robertson lauds four Liverpool teammates after ‘ugly’ win

Andy Robertson has praised Diogo Jota and his Liverpool defensive partners after their win over Wolves.

Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up their fifth away victory from their last six games on Monday Night against Wolves. They won 1-0 thanks to Jota’s goal just before half time.

This was the forward’s first game back at Molineux since his move to Liverpool last summer.

Everton, Tottenham and West Ham all lost over the weekend, so this was a huge result for Jurgen Klopp’s men. They are now up to sixth in the Premier League with nine games to go. They are five points adrift of Chelsea who occupy the final Champions League spot.

Speaking post-match, as cited by The Liverpool Echo, Roberton admitted that Jota had been sorely “missed” by his teammates:

“I’m delighted for [Jota], we’ve missed him and it’s great to have him back from injury and it’s great to see him out there again.

“That was a finish he was doing in the early part of the season so we are glad he’s not lost that!

“I’m sure he was desperate to score… coming back, playing against his old friends and he’s got some fantastic memories here.”

Wolves put Liverpool on the back foot at times on Monday night and they had to defend well. Robertson also reserved praise for Nat Phillips, Ozan Kabak and Trent Alexander-Arnold:

He added: “I thought our two centre-backs were amazing again. Trent was brilliant, they really helped us to keep a clean sheet and I thought they were magnificent, so credit goes to them.

“In a game like this when you win ugly and they start throwing bodies forward for headers and it’s scrappy, some of their blocks and the way they put their head in it was fantastic.

“It’s a wee bit different, Ozan has had to come in and done really well. Big Nat has been around for a long time and he’s a wee bit older but now he’s getting his chance and you can tell that.

“He’s willing to take that, he’s still learning and he’s becoming commanding at the back.”
