Savage: Man Utd should ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign Kane

Pundit Robbie Savage believes Man Utd need to ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign Spurs striker Harry Kane.

The Red Devils have been linked with a major move for Kane this summer, alongside Man City and Real Madrid.

They’re looking for a world-class replacement for Anthony Martial and the Englishman could be the ideal solution.

Kane could also be on his way out of North London in search of trophies.

Spurs’ 3-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday saw them crash out of the Europa League in just the round of 16.

They’ve reached the Carabao Cup final but will be big underdogs against Pep Guardiola’s in-form Man City.

That leaves Kane with dwindling hopes of a trophy this season.

Speaking about the striker’s situation, Savage wrote on his column with The Mirror: “Erling Haaland has probably overtaken Kane as first-choice target for Europe’s elite, so he faces a choice. He can stick around at Tottenham, break Alan Shearer’s record, cement his place as a Spurs legend and take his chances that a medal or two might come his way.

“Or if his old boss Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid or Man Utd come calling, does he want to be a winner and have the medals to show for it?

“Man Utd have not won anything for four years, but the way they managed a tricky away leg in the San Siro to beat AC Milan was miles ahead of Tottenham’s disarray in Zagreb.

“I’ve said before that United are a top-class centre-forward away from being truly frightening, so I’ll say it again. If he can’t get Haaland, new director of football John Murtough should go all-out to bring Kane to Old Trafford. Move heaven and earth for him.”

Spurs are hoping to tie their talisman down to fresh terms soon, as well as the equally important Heung-Min Son.

However, the talks have been postponed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. That means Man Utd or one of Europe’s other elite clubs might swoop in to sign Kane.

As Savage mentioned, a younger alternative for Man Utd is Haaland. The Norwegian has bagged 19 league goals in 20 appearances this term and looks set to start a transfer race next year.
