Robbie Savage launches Foundation to provide free grassroots football

Robbie Savage has launched The Savage Foundation to provide free coaching sessions for youngsters at Macclesfield FC.

Starting in March, the sessions will be held every Tuesday and open to any child within the Macclesfield District Area aged 5-12, in partnership with The Law Family Charitable Foundation and backed by both the FA and Sport England.

As well as two full-time coaches and a selection of volunteers to run the sessions, The Savage Foundation will also offer players the chance to attend educational classes and homework clubs, while all members will be given the chance to compete in a new Saturday Community League with a free kit provided to them.

“No child should be disadvantaged because of their ability, background or social inequality so it’s time to level the playing field,” Savage said in a video to announce the launch.

“Time to provide that accessibility for all. Time to focus on the benefits of mental and physical health that playing football, making no friends and being active brings to our next generation.”

Savage hopes to take the service around the country in time too, adding: “Once our foundation model is proven, we hope to expand to wider communities and clubs across the UK.”
