Rio Ferdinand says he wanted Jose Mourinho to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Man Utd when the legend retired in 2013.
It was David Moyes who took the reins from Ferguson but the current West Ham manager was only given 11 months before being sacked.
The Scot was sacked before the end of his first season after taking the reigning champions towards a mid-table finish, with interim manager Ryan Giggs guiding them to 7th.

Louis van Gaal tried his luck before meeting the same fate as Moyes in 2016 before Mourinho was eventually appointed as the Dutchman’s successor.
The Portuguese coach won the EFL Cup and Europa League in his two and a half years at Man Utd and Ferdinand had hoped for Mourinho’s appointment back in 2013.
“I thought that [Mourinho should take over] at the time,” Ferdinand told the FIVE YouTube channel.
“I thought Mourinho would have been the one the one to come in then to carry on what the manager was doing.
“He had the experience of that type of player, that stature of club etc but it never materialised. At that time I would have been punching the air if Mourinho came through the door.
“Mourinho has the experience, he’s won the league, won the Champions League, managed at Inter, Real Madrid, Chelsea – they’re all big clubs man!
“He knew what he was coming into but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee you success at Manchester United as we saw when he came at the time he did.”
