Ferdinand bites back after false Kane to Man Utd claim

Rio Ferdinand has quickly moved to dismiss false claims that he thinks Harry Kane is past his sell-by date.

Jamie O’Hara, in discussion with Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist on talkSPORT, said he was “surprised” that Ferdinand didn’t think Manchester United should move for Kane this summer.

United, along with Manchester City and Chelsea, have been linked with moves for top strikers from across Europe including Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.

And O’Hara believes Kane still has “five years of greatness” in him and would be “right at the top of your list” as a club on the lookout for a world class centre-forward.

“I think he’s still worthy of a big move, I really do,” O’Hara said.

“I’m surprised because I know Rio is a big advocate for top players and especially English ones. But if you’re looking at Man City or Man United who will be looking for No.9s in the summer Harry Kane has to be right at the top of your list.

“You for Haaland, you go for Mbappe and if you can’t get them two, you go for Harry Kane.

“There isn’t really anyone better than them three as complete centre-forwards. Alright he’s had his injury problems, he’s 27, but he’s still unbelievable, he’s doing it week in week out in the Premier League.

“In the current climate he’s worth over £100million. If you’re signing Harry Kane you’re signing him for five years of greatness. He looks after his body he’s the ultimate professional, you’re going to get a world class player for five years.”

But Ferdinand moved to quickly put O’Hara right on Twitter, insisting he ‘loves’ Kane and ‘would take him at Man United every day of the week’.

He added that the confusion was likely due to him saying Haaland might be a better option as he has the potential for greater longevity.
