Richards includes Aguero in his ‘top three’ Prem strikers of all-time

Micah Richards has insisted that Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero is in the top three Premier League strikers of all-time.

Aguero came through the ranks with Argentinian outfit Independiente. This was before he had a successful five year spell with Atletico Madrid between 2006 and 2011.

The forward scored 101 goals for them from 234 outings in all competitions. This form tempted Manchester City to splash out around £35m to bring him to the Premier League.

Aguero immediately hit the ground running in England as he netted 30 times from his 48 appearances during his debut season.

The last of these goals came against QPR in added time on the final day of the season. This was the strike that won City the league title in the most dramatic of ways possible.

The Argentina international has continued to be a mainstay for City since then and he has been one of the most prolific strikers in world football.

Aguero has become Man City’s new record scorer by netted 257 times from 384 games in all competitions.

He has helped them win the Premier League title on four separate occasions. During his time at the club, they have also won the League Cup five times and they have lifted the FA Cup once.

City could still do the quadruple this season. They are the runaway leaders in the Premier League and they are in the final of the Carabao Cup. They also remain in contention for the FA Cup and Champions League.

The club announced on Monday evening that Aguero would leave at the end of the season.

Richards – who played with Aguero at City – told the BBC, as cited by Manchester Evening News, that he was “devasted” to hear that the striker was leaving:

“I was in a great mood to be honest and it’s took the wind out of me.

“I’m devastated, it’s devastating news for someone who is arguably the best ever striker to grace the Premier League.

“I think him, Shearer and Henry would be my top three and for this to happen, I could see grumbles of this happening at the start of the season.

Richards added: “I know he’s had his problems with his knee and what-not, but even when he’s been fit he’s not been starting.

“Normally, they would give him 60 or 70 minutes then take him off to get him to full speed but he’s been on the bench for a lot of games.”
