Report: Spurs begin talks with Conte over vacant hot seat

Spurs have entered talks with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte about becoming their new manager, according to reports.

The Italian is a free agent after opting to leave Inter due to their negative summer transfer policy.

He decided to walk out just days after securing their first Serie A title in 11 years.

According to Sky Italia (via Express), Spurs and Conte are locked in negotiations and could soon finalise a deal.

Conte is one of chairman Daniel Levy’s favoured options to take over in north London.

He was previously rooting for a Mauricio Pochettino return, but it seems the Argentinian tactician is keen to bring the Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain.

Conte’s availability also makes him a cheaper alternative to Pochettino.

The 51-year-old is a serial winner who has the potential to get Spurs back into the top four.

His league title win with Inter ended Juventus’ nine-year dominance, a run which he helped to start in 2011.

Conte additionally has Premier League experience, having managed Chelsea between 2016 and 2018.

During that time, he guided Chelsea to the 2016/17 title as they finished on 93 points.

One of his greatest achievements was turning a mediocre Victor Moses into a Premier League star, albeit for just one season.

The manager brought further success to Stamford Bridge the next campaign as they lifted the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Wembley.

However, their declining league form saw Conte’s job come under threat. He was fired soon afterwards as they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Conte is rumoured to be a managerial target for Everton, too. The Toffees are without a manager due to Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to rejoin Real Madrid.

This summer looks set to be an important one for Premier League clubs and their vacant hot seats.

Wolves are managerless after letting Nuno Espirito Santo leave Molineux. He’s already been touted as Ancelotti’s successor at Goodison Park.

Following Roy Hodgson’s retirement, Crystal Palace will need to enter the manager market in the coming months.

They also need to deal with a host of squad members who are out of contract this month.
