Rangers plotting £15m move for Sheff Utd striker McBurnie

Rangers are hoping to sign Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie in a £15million deal, according to reports.

The Scottish side recently went unbeaten on their way to the league title, ending Celtic’s nine-year dominance in the process.

Manager Steven Gerrard is now searching for reinforcements ahead of their title defence next season.

Six discarded England players who need a transfer

According to the Daily Mail, McBurnie is one option to improve their attack.

Rangers are confident of signing the Scotland international with a £15million bid in the summer transfer window.

Their hopes of gaining his signature are boosted by the fact that McBurnie is a boyhood Rangers fan.

A £15million move would see Sheffield United take a £5million loss on the player they signed from Swansea two years ago.

McBurnie enjoyed a decent first campaign in the Premier League last term.

He scored six league goals as the Blades enjoyed a brilliant season, finishing ninth in the table.

However, his displays dropped significantly this time around, along with most of his team-mates.

He scored just one goal all season as Sheffield United were relegated to the Championship.

That form is the main reason why his value has dropped during his time at Bramall Lane.

This summer looks set to be a huge one for everyone involved at the club. They recently appointed Slavisa Jokanovic as manager.

The Serbian, who is the first overseas manager in the Blades’ history, has achieved promotions with both Fulham and Watford.

He will be aiming to make it three next season. In the mean time, the situations of numerous players will need sorting out.

Midfield star Sander Berge has been linked with Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool.

With his history of playing in the Champions League with Genk, it’s unclear whether the Norwegian is content with Championship football. He may force through a move if a top flight side comes calling.

Centre-back John Egan was one of their better players throughout the campaign. Keeping hold of him will be essential if they are serious about regaining their Prem status.

The Republic of Ireland international has a contract running until June 2024, giving Sheffield United a good chance of retaining his services.
