Former Spurs man sends Kane Real Madrid transfer warning

Former Spurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has warned Harry Kane against a move to Real Madrid this summer.

The England star has been heavily linked with a major move in search of trophies.

The likes of Roy Keane, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Savage have all told the striker to consider a Spurs exit.

OPINION: We are once again asking are Man United actually good or what?

He is yet to win a trophy during his career, despite being one of the Premier League’s top scorers in recent seasons.

One player who has featured for both Spurs and Real is van der Vaart.

The former Holland international has told Kane to prioritise a move to Man Utd over the Spanish capital.

Speaking about Kane to Dutch source Ziggo Sport (via Goal), he said: “He is now the best striker after [Robert] Lewandowski, and he is the man at Tottenham.

“It may sound crazy, but you would almost say go to Manchester United or something, stay in England.

“Usually, it’s not such a success when an English player goes to Madrid.”

Steve McManaman became the first England star to sign for Real in 1999.

He enjoyed a successful spell in Spain and won two La Liga titles, alongside two Champions League trophies.

David Beckham signed for Los Blancos in 2003 as part of their famous Galacticos team.

However, the legendary side failed to live up to their high expectations. They won just one La Liga title in 2006/07 despite having one of the best squads ever assembled.

Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate endured tough spells with Real after leaving England.

Real and Man Utd are thought to be leading the race for Kane this summer.

Spurs are hoping to begin contract talks ‘soon’, but if they stall then a major bid looks likely.

The Red Devils may sign Kane if Edinson Cavani is allowed to leave for Boca Juniors.

It’s thought that the 27-year-old would link up well with England teammates Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Manchester rivals City have also been credited with an interest.

They reportedly view Kane as Sergio Aguero’s successor, with the Argentinian departing at the end of the season.
