PSG issue defiant message regarding Mbappe’s future amid Real Madrid interest

PSG have unfortunately found their name in the headlines as Kylian Mbappe’s future continues to dominate the news. The reason is obvious: the Frenchman is one of the deadliest attackers in world football and with his contract ending in a year’s time, Europe’s biggest clubs have their eyes on him.

Unlike Neymar, the 2018 World Cup winner is yet to commit his future to the Ligue 1 giants, which has raised the alarm. He will be entering the final year of his contract, hence why a departure this summer makes sense.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old as Los Blancos are on the lookout for a talisman attacker to fill the void left by Cristiano back in 2018. However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has issued a defiant message to all those looking to pry Mbappe away from the Parc des Princes.

The PSG executive spoke to L’Equipe and touched on the issue of Kylian’s future, publicly clarifying that their talisman forward is not for sale. The Qatari executive went on to add that he won’t be leaving the club for free but did not elaborate how he intends to prevent this given that there is only one year remaining on his contract.

“I will be clear,” Al-Khelaifi told L’Equipe (as per Marca). “Mbappe is going to stay in Paris.

“We will never sell I’m and he will never leave on a free [transfer]. Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris.

“Where can he go? What club, in terms of ambition, can compete with PSG today?

“All I can say is that things are going well, and I hope we can reach an agreement [on a new contract]. This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital.”

This might be music to the ears of PSG fans but until the Frenchman signs an extension, the worry surrounding his future won’t die down. Real Madrid, who are considered the favorites to sign the 2018 World Cup winner, are struggling for cash due to the COVID-19 pandemic but if a new deal is not signed by January, then the Spanish giants can enter negotiations for a free transfer for the Ligue 1 sensation.

Al-Khelaifi opened up about an array of topics during his talk with L’Equipe, including that of Neyma’s contract situation. The Brazilian recently signed a new deal in Paris but he had long been linked with a return to Barcelona after growing frustrated with life in the French capital.

The PSG president admitted that the Selecao ace struggled to adapt but stressed that the 29-year-old is now happy and settled in Paris. He also made sure to throw in a sly dig at the Blaugrana who launched several failed attempts to re-sign the South American magician.

“Barcelona tried very hard to sign Neymar,” Al-Khelaifi added. “Obviously, we rejected their advances.

“I think they club [Barcelona] have some financial problems, but that isn’t our business. Barcelona have always loved Neymar, and that isn’t a secret.

“Neymar didn’t want to go there, even though he wasn’t completely adapted to PSG or Paris. But if you call him now, he will tell you he is happy at PSG.”
