Premier League Round-up: West Ham climb to No.1, Man Utd make history, and Arsenal hit new low as Lukaku drops five-star performance

After delivering thrills in its opening weekend, the Premier League continued to offer more excitment this weekend to see the conclusion of matchday two. Just as it was the case last week, a number of results caused heads to turn to add to the drama that is already unfolding. For the competition’s giants, Liverpool set the ball rolling on Saturday by beating Burnley 2-0 at Anfield to register their second win of the season. Manchester City subsequently bounced back from the opening day disappointment against Tottenham Hotspur to put five unanswered goals past newly promoted Norwich while cross-town rivals Manchester City dropped two points in the 1-1 draw with Southampton barely 24 hours later.

Later on Sunday, Arsenal failed to paint London red with Romelu Lukaku inspiring Chelsea to a 2-0 victory in his first derby since rejoining the club from Inter Milan this summer. West Ham finished the gameweek atop the Premier League table for the first time in 15 years thanks to an emphatic 4-1 win over Leicester City in a night in which Michail Antonio became the club’s outright all-time top goalscorer.

Premier League clubs will not release players for international games in red-list countries: The Premier League says it has backed its clubs who have decided not to release players for matches in red-list countries during September’s international break. Under current UK government rules, players would be forced to miss several games should they decide to travel to partake in the upcoming international games.

Andy Robertson signs new Liverpool contract until 2026: Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson penned a new deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2026. The 27-year-old defender follows Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Alisson and Virgil van Dijk in extending his contract with Liverpool this summer.

Wolves vs Manchester United: Manchester United will look to appease their fans by bouncing back from Sunday’s frustrating draw with Southampton when they travel to the Molineux on Sunday. On the contrary, Bruno Lage’s men will be poised to register their first win of the season after picking up successive defeats against Tottenham and Leicester City.
