Pogba urged to leave Man Utd as Ole doesn’t ‘understand’ him

Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has urged Paul Pogba to leave Man Utd if he wants to be “the best” in the world.

Pogba has enjoyed a relatively drama-free season, although injury has halted his progress under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Frenchman only starting 18 Premier League fixtures this campaign.

The 28-year-old has been in good form of late, helping himself to a goal and four assists in his last seven matches in all competitions.

TRANSFER GOSSIP: Man United to appease fans with £90m move?

In the previous couple of seasons – especially under Jose Mourinho – there had been rumours that he could look for a new club with Pogba shocking Man Utd fans in 2019 by saying it would be a “good time to have a new challenge”.

And even recent reports have claimed that Pogba ‘will be sold this summer if he refuses to commit to signing a new deal’ but that Man Utd  are ‘still confident they can keep him’.

On whether Pogba has reached his full potential in England, Desailly told beIN Sports: “No, not yet, not yet, but not especially because he’s not committed.

“Probably because the elements around him are not fitting with his quality, his state of mind.”

Desailly added: “He needs a good city. He needs a good team who play for him. He needs a coach who understands him.

“[Didier] Deschamps readjusted Pogba during the World Cup. He changed his system to 4-2-3-1 for Pogba.

“Out of four elements to make Pogba the best… if only two of the elements are there it’s not enough for him to express himself.

“There is two out of four [at Manchester United] so probably he has to go somewhere else to gain an extra one to potentially be able to show that consistency and that talent that he has and shine in the football world.”

When asked recently if Man Utd would cash in on their star midfielder, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replied: “No, of course not.

“I have always said with Paul that I enjoy managing him, I enjoy coaching him, I enjoy talking to him and I also enjoy challenging him because he is a winner.

“He wants to be better and that’s why he listens. You can see he’s enjoying himself here as well.

“He has a smile on his face. It’s important we treat each other with respect and I try to treat everyone with the same amount of respect.

“But there are some players you have known since they were young lads and that’s the case with Paul: the longer you have known them the easier it is to have a bond with them.”
