Guardiola rejects Ancelotti’s ‘almost impossible’ Man City claim

Pep Guardiola says it’s possible to beat his Manchester City side after Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti claimed it was “almost impossible”.

City overcame the Toffees 3-1 at Goodison Park on Wednesday night to increase their lead at the top of the Premier League to ten points.

It was the Citizens’ 17th straight win in all competitions, leading Ancelotti to make his comments about Guardiola’s side.

“I appreciate it but I don’t agree with him,” said Guardiola told reporters at a press conference on Friday.

“We can lose because the opponents are good. I love Carlo. He is an inspiration for me. But I don’t agree with him.”

On further claims from pundits and fans that they have the title race sewn up, Guardiola insisted there’s a long way to go in the season.

“Ten days have changed everything. But we still have 42 points to play for. We have to focus on the next game and not listen to what people say.

“We are in February. It is still not spring and you win titles in summer time. There are a lot of games to come.”

Since project restart last summer, players, officials and staff at Premier League and EFL games have been taking the knee prior to kick-off to show support for the movement for racial equality.

And Guardiola thinks taking a knee is still worthwhile despite Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha sparking a debate yesterday after describing it as “degrading”.

Guardiola continued: “We are not going to resolve the problem by taking a knee before the whistle, but it’s a gesture and we have to do more of it.

“We have to educate in our personal life, through schools, more actions, more punishments. It’s the only way to eradicate it. It’s just a message for little boys in schools about equality and everyone being the same.”
