Scholes urges Grealish to secure big move amid Man Utd links

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes has urged Jack Grealish to make a big move this summer to win trophies and accolades.

The England international is a boyhood Aston Villa fan who has shown his loyalty on countless occasions.

He was heavily linked with a Man Utd transfer in the summer but opted to remain at Villa Park.

His Premier League form this season could see him nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award.

But Scholes thinks he is more likely to win those kinds of awards if he moves to a top six side.

Speaking to Optus Sport, Scholes said: “Don’t get me wrong, I love the player, but if he was doing this at Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City, one of the top clubs, then he’d be up there. He’d possibly be top three.

“There is no pressure on Villa. If he is at a top club then he needs to win every week. He needs to leave Villa to prove that [he is a top player].

“Jack Grealish is probably the same [as Paolo Di Canio]. It is all about him at Aston Villa. He needs to get out now to a club that need to win every week, [where] there is pressure to deliver trophies.

“He is capable of doing it, but there will always be a doubt until you do it.”

Grealish is certainly in line to become Villa’s player of the year this term.

He’s scored six goals and assisted 12 more to help the club pursue a Europa League place.

That form has seen him recognised by Gareth Southgate as one of England’s best midfielders.

He now looks set to start in this summer’s European Championships, should he remain fit.

Grealish has missed his first few league games of the season in recent weeks.

He’s picked up a lower leg injury and will miss Villa’s next match against Sheff Utd.

The skipper could return for their fixture against Newcastle next Friday.
