Pundit ‘wants to see more’ from Arsenal midfielder Partey

Pundit Paul Ince says he ‘wants to see more’ from Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.

The 27-year-old moved to the Emirates from Atletico Madrid in October for a £45million fee.

He’s since made 23 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions but is yet to register his first goal.

OPINION: At least one tired old Jose Mourinho tactic still works…

Partey played a full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Sheffield United at the weekend.

He also registered an assist by sending through Alexandre Lacazette for the final goal.

Partey turned Ben Osborn and played a defence-splitting pass, which Lacazette hit first time into the bottom corner.

Despite his performance, Ince says he wants the player to show more for Mikel Arteta’s men.

He said (via Metro): “I want to see more from Thomas Partey, I want to see more.

“At Atletico Madrid he was fantastic, getting it, breaking play up, putting balls in like he did today for Lacazette. I haven’t seen enough of it, if he gets some more of it then they’ve got a top, top player.”

Speaking before the clash at Bramall Lane, Arteta was asked about Partey’s first Arsenal season.

He said: “It’s very difficult to make a proper assessment of Thomas’ performances so far because he has missed six months and that is a long time.

“He is still adapting to our way of playing, which is different to what he did at Atletico, but we can all see what he brings to the team.

“It’s about him finding the level of consistency that we need from him because he has the capacity that we can build a team that can play around him.

“The biggest difficulty he has had so far is that he has not been fit. Then every time he recovered, he missed the next game.

“He has not had time to prepare himself physically to play at the highest level and that has obviously had an impact because the Premier League demands real fitness.”

Partey has the potential to become a star player for Arsenal if he can stay fit and get used to their playing style.

With youngsters Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe all proving themselves, Arteta could build an exciting Arsenal team.
