Owen Hargreaves predicts that Man Utd will win a trophy this season after seeing them beat Real Sociedad 4-o in the Europa League on Thursday.
After December’s galling Champions League group-stage exit, the Red Devils put together an impressive domestic run that saw them reach the top of the Premier League last month.
But things have gone awry recently, with Sunday’s disappointing 1-1 draw at embattled West Brom meaning they had just two victories to show from six matches in all competitions.
OPINION: Dan James bloody loves Getting In On The Act for Man United
Man Utd got back to winning ways in style in Thursday’s Europa League last-32 clash against Sociedad, with Bruno Fernandes’ brace complemented by Marcus Rashford and Daniel James in a 4-0 first-leg win in Turin.
Hargreaves told BT Sport: “They’re definitely one of the favourites to win the Europa League. I think they’ll win a trophy this season Manchester United, whatever that’s going to be.
“And if they can finish second in the Premier League, bridge the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool then I think they’re in a good position, and then they need to go and strengthen [their squad] in the summer. Ole’s done a good job and if they can add a trophy that’s exactly what Manchester United fans will want.”
And fellow BT Sport pundit Paul Scholes is hoping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can redeem themselves after being knocked out of the Champions League earlier in the campaign.
Scholes said: “They’d love to be in the Champions League, it was quite disappointing really to get knocked out of that competition but the Europa League is the next best thing and hopefully they can go on and win that.”
